The First 15 Weeks

Because of my early pregnancy symptoms, I haven't had the energy to post much. :( Apparently the fatigue, among other symptoms should subside after 3 months...we'll see.

Up until I was 5 weeks I felt pretty normal, except for the super tender boobs and feeling grossed out about random things. Once week 5 came, so did extreme hunger and nausea, both lasting ALL day. All of a sudden poultry, particularly raw poultry, made me want to vomit. Even the idea of it. This isn't a good thing since most of what I cook is poultry. I did however crave red meat. Bad. One day after work I told D that I NEEDED a hamburger. He took me to get a burger and made sure they cooked it well done, since now I can't eat any meat that isn't fully cooked. Man, it was good. Oh and smells! Certain smells made me want to hurl. Like being stuck in a crowded elevator and smelling every one's mixture of perfume, cologne, hair products, etc....oh that was rough. I also started experiencing insomnia.(what??) I have never experienced insomnia and it sucks. I have no problem falling asleep much earlier than I used to, but then the insomnia strikes at late night/early morning hours.

6 weeks brought more of the same. One of my desk drawers at work is stuffed with crackers and snacks. A must to combat this ravenous hunger.

On November 7, 2011, we had our first prenatal appointment. The ultrasound was amazing. We saw our tiny 7week and 4day old baby and heard his, or her, strong heartbeat. This was definitely the best part of our appointment and I can't wait until the next ultrasound. I was also sent to a lab to do the 1st round of routine blood work. That part was no fun. After this appointment, we felt more comfortable to start telling family and close friends.

At week 8 per my mom's suggestion, I bought a couple of maternity pants to start preparing for the upcoming weeks/months. So far I still fit in my regular pants, but I am not sure how much longer I can get away with that....

I didn't get away with that for too long. I was wearing maternity pants at about week 10 or so. Now at week 15 I feel so much better in regards to the nausea and hunger. The ravenous hunger has tapered down and the nausea is gone for the most part. My energy is also returning a bit.

Wow, this is my last post of 2011. Another year has flown by. Here's to blessings for all in 2012!

Thanks for sharing your experience! I know this is all very intimate, personal stuff, but it's cool to hear you speak of it so candidly. Wow hormones, right?

These were the little things I wanted to look back on and remember, even if some of it was unpleasant, such as the nausea. And yea, HORMONES! :)
